Cozy Confession

On October 26, I took part in a Facebook takeover for the Cozy Mystery Lovers/Meg’s Cozy Corner FB group. It’s a great group and if you love cozy mysteries you might want to join. They have page takeovers by many wonderful cozy authors. It was an honor to be invited and, I must confess, a true learning experience.

I made a spooktacle of myself on takeover day.

Here’s the thing: I’ve never done a Facebook takeover. I’ve never pre-scheduled a post. I’ve never shown up to moderate an hour of back-and-forth comments. I’ve never done an online giveaway. Needless to say… mistakes were made. Somehow, the posts I’d prescheduled showed up hours late. Was it because I created them when I was on Pacific Time but moderated from the Eastern time zone? I did go back into each post and adjust the time when I learned I would not be at home on takeover day. Maybe I forgot to save the changes. Who knows?

I also did the giveaway too soon: on the day of the takeover, instead of waiting for a few days to allow more comments. I did manage to gift two ebooks (Murder at Last Chance Cove and Death in the Haunted Wood) to the chosen participant and touch base with her to make sure she’d received the ebooks. She had not, but after sharing a bit more about what she should look for, there they were. Yay!

A successful Halloween takeover in Ashland, Oregon.

I learned something else over the last week: airlines now charge you for everything from seats to checked bags to snacks that are supposed to pass for food, even on cross-country flights. Like my amateur sleuth, Saffi Graywood, I have spent the last ten years traveling in an RV. Wheels on the ground. Pavement under the wheels. Plenty of food in the cabinets and fridge. A bed to nap on if I’m so inclined. I had no idea air travel had changed so much. Now that I know? I love RV travel more than ever.

What’s your favorite way to travel? One of mine is, and will always be, through the pages of a good book.
