If you’ve seen the cover of Death in the Haunted Wood, you may have noticed the cat. I know a lot of cozy readers want pets to show up in every book. I want the pets in my books (and cozies I read) to be there for a reason beyond just hanging around and looking adorable.

Tomago, the Maine Coon cat character in Death in the Haunted Wood has several roles to play and they’re not peripheral. They’re critical. The cat with serious “cattiude” is based on my granddaughter’s cat and her behavior comes straight out of real life.

Of course, you’ll have to read the book to find out what’s going on behind this fine fluffy feline’s green eyes.
