When I find a series I love, I can’t wait until the next book comes out. When I have to wait years for the next book I get irritated. By the time the next book pubs I’ve forgotten all about the first and have to reread it. Sometimes, the next book never shows and I am bereft. (Yes. I’m talking about you, Patrick Rothfuss.)
That’s why I am delighted to be writing cozy mysteries for Storm Publishing. Murder at Last Chance Cove debuted on August 6 and now, Death in the Haunted Wood is out and ready for Saffi Graywood’s newly-minted fans to read.
I wrote this cozy autumn read in the dead of winter which is part of why it’s filled with chills, campfires, and enough hot drinks to warm even the coldest toes. Of course, if you live on (or have visited) the Oregon coast, you’ll know that nearly every day has its chilly, foggy, windy… dare I say, spooky… moments.
My fabulous editor, Kate, just shared her favorite reviewer descriptor of the book: Knives Out meets Hocus Pocus! I’ll take it!
Here’s more of what the five-star review had to say:
I was not prepared for how badly I needed a Halloween-themed mystery involving an aging horror star, a spooky campground, and a sarcastic author turned reluctant sleuth… Also, can we talk about the Halloween Spooktacular? It’s everything: costumed chaos, themed drinks, suspicious party guests, a performance from a man who peaked in 1973, and a killer lurking just out of frame. It’s like Knives Out met Hocus Pocus at a campground and brought murder as a plus-one… Five stars. No notes. Except maybe “bring a flashlight” if you’re reading at night.
