RVers know that the road is only part of the journey. When you pull into a campsite there are tanks to dump. Hookups to be made—and I don’t mean the personal connection kind that come with sparks of attraction. I mean the water hose to the water spigot, the plug to the electrical outlet, the drain hose to the sewer. There are jacks to be leveled so the fridge works and the writer at her desk doesn’t get vertigo when she leaps to her feet with a new plot twist or murder solution. When you pull into home base after a road trip you hope for a sigh of relief but often you encounter problems to solve.
RVing, it seems, is a lot like writing books. Just when you think you’re done—the book has been published—new challenges appear. Like me, many writers are introverts. When it comes to self-promotion we’re as clumsy as Saffi Graywood with a mouth full of scone. We’re awkward. Nervous. Full of self-doubt. That’s me right now. I’m doing all I can to support my wonderful publisher as they support the first book in my Pacific Northwest Cozy Mystery series. Just know this: the book is better than any self-promo I might do. I promise!
